Social environment can play an important role in the biology of disease, including breast cancer, and lead to significant differences in health outcome. In a preclinical model described in the October issue of Cancer Prevention Research, Suzanne D. Conzen and colleagues found that socially isolated female mice developed significantly larger mammary gland tumors compared to mice that were group-housed. Alterations in the expression levels of metabolic pathway genes were found in the isolated mice.
